The Sales Manager will lead and develop the sales function, driving sustainable revenue growth, increasing market share, and strengthening customer relationships across the building industry and NP Group. The role will be responsible for managing the sales team, identifying new business opportunities, enhancing customer retention, and ensuring the delivery of exceptional customer service. As the business continues to expand, the Sales Manager will play a key role in shaping and executing the commercial strategy, helping to establish the company as the preferred builders merchant within its target markets.
Key Responsibilities
Sales Leadership & Performance
- Develop and implement the company’s sales strategy to achieve growth targets.
- Lead, motivate, and manage the sales team to maximise individual and collective performance.
- Set sales objectives, KPIs, and performance measures.
- Monitor sales activity, pipelines, and conversion rates to ensure targets are achieved.
- Conduct regular performance reviews and provide coaching and development support.
Business Development
- Identify and secure new business opportunities across trade, contractor, developer, and commercial customer segments.
- Build strong relationships with key customers and stakeholders.
- Develop strategic account plans for major customers.
- Increase market penetration to raise brand awareness.
- Identify opportunities for product range expansion and cross-selling.
Customer Relationship Management
- Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction and account retention.
- Resolve customer issues and commercial disputes effectively and swiftly.
- Conduct regular customer visits and maintain a visible presence within the market.
- Build long-term partnerships with key customers and suppliers.
Commercial Management
- Manage sales budgets and forecasts.
- Analyse sales data, market trends, competitor activity, and customer requirements.
- Work closely with Group operations, purchasing, and finance teams to optimise profitability.
- Ensure pricing strategies deliver both competitiveness and margin growth.
- Prepare regular sales performance reports for senior management.
Team Development
- Recruit, train, and develop sales personnel as the business grows.
- Foster a high-performance culture focused on customer service and commercial success.
- Support succession planning and talent development within the sales team.
- Promote standards of professionalism.
- Conduct annual appraisals.
- Maintain accurate records of team attendance, 1:1 meetings, performance etc.
Market Intelligence
- Monitor competitor activity and market developments.
- Identify emerging opportunities within construction, housing, infrastructure, and trade sectors.
- Provide commercial insights to support strategic decision-making.
- Complete any other reasonable duties as directed by the Business Leads to aid business /department success.

Essentials Skills and Knowledge
- Proven experience in a sales leadership role within a builders merchant, construction supplies, building materials, or related sector.
- Strong commercial awareness and negotiation skills.
- Track record of delivering sales growth and achieving targets.
- Experience managing and developing a high-performing sales team.
- Excellent relationship-building and communication skills.
- Strong analytical and reporting capability.
- Full clean driving licence.
- Understands and adheres to strict confidentiality of business and customers information.
Desirable Skills Knowledge
- Experience managing sales operations.
- Knowledge of timber, heavyside, landscaping and specialist building products.
- Experience using CRM, sales management systems and bespoke systems.
- Professional sales or leadership qualifications.

Based in the main building of Quantum in Jersey, this role will enable to the postholder to learn and develop a wide range of skills and knowledge on the job and will be supported to progress within the Group if desired.
